Urban reprieve- A subtractive intervention
In a dense row house neighbourhood, this project reimagines renovation through subtraction rather than addition. The client acquired two adjacent plots, removed the existing buildings, and introduced a garden, creating a rare moment of openness within the dense old city urban fabric. Inspired by the concept of conservative surgery, the intervention makes decongestion and improvement with maximum spatial and emotional impact.
At the center of this new green void sits a small elliptical glass pavilion, an entertainment space that lightly touches the landscape. Its transparency and soft geometry contrast with the rigidity of the surrounding urban grid, offering a gentle rupture in form and atmosphere.
Rather than increasing built density, the project introduces relief, light, and nature.
It becomes a quiet manifesto on urban living: one that prioritizes breathing space over footprint, and presence through absence. A thoughtful, surgical insertion that gives more by building less.
